On Thursday WSMV reported that a Republican-proposed cold beer ban within the state of Tennessee is getting quite a bit of buzz — no pun intended. In addition to banning cold alcoholic drinks at convenience stores, the ban also intends to implement a limit to the number of drinks people can have at on-premise establishments, like bars and restaurants.

“When you are affected in a situation by a drunk driver you look at things differently,” Rep. Ron Gant said, according to WSMV.

Gant proposed the legislation and reflected on the life-altering event of being hit by a drunk driver. Despite his personal experience, the Republican member of the Tennessee House of Representatives for District 94 insists the Tennessee Prevention of Drunk Driving Act, or HB 2845 , isn’t about him.

Though he is aware the bill “isn’t popular,” he insists anybody who has experienced a death in the family because of the actions of a drunk driver would understand, according to WSMV.
