Group of 8 repeatedly stabs teen boy at Coney Island subway station

NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – Police are searching for eight people in the stabbing of a teen boy at Coney Island’s transit hub this week.

The NYPD released surveillance images Friday of the group sought in Wednesday afternoon’s stabbing at the Coney Island–Stillwell Avenue D/F/N/Q station.

The 16-year-old victim was at the station shortly after 3:15 p.m. when the group “engaged him in conversation” and then stabbed him multiple times with a sharp object, police said.

It’s unclear what they spoke about or what may have prompted the attack.

The group quickly fled the station on foot before EMS transported the teen to Maimonides Medical center. He was listed in stable condition.

Transit crime was up 46.1% in January compared to January 2023, according to the latest NYPD data.

Hours before the Coney Island stabbing, a homeless man assaulted a female MTA worker and a good Samaritan at the 4/5 Wall Street station. And on Thursday a bottle-wielding woman randomly attacked a cellist at the Herald Square subway station. Police also arrested a teen Thursday in Monday’s mass shooting at a Bronx subway station that left a bystander dead and five people wounded.
