CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. — An adult son and his parents escaped a house fire on Drayton Landing Court in Chester, Virginia on Friday morning. Two people were last listed in critical but stable condition due to smoke inhalation. A third person suffered a non-life-threatening, according to a Chesterfield Fire and EMS spokesperson.
“The first thing I thought was just to [help] get somebody out of the house. To make sure there was nobody in the house,” neighbor Charles Lewis, who woke up to see the flames, said. “I know at least two or three people live in the house. So I worried, I only seen one was out and I seen the son walking around the house trying to call or trying to get somebody out the house.”
Lewis said one of the occupants jumped out of the house to safety,
“When he jumped out, flames went straight into that room no more than two minutes after that,” Lewis said.
“Crews responded to the 5600 block of Drayton Landing Court at 6:49 a.m. this morning for reports of a house fire. The first firefighters who arrived on the scene found heavy fire coming from the home. Because of that, and the proximity to neighboring homes, they quickly declared a second alarm,” a Chesterfield Fire and EMS spokesperson said.”The fire was marked under control at 8:01 a.m.”
