Multi-county pursuit ends in West Palm Beach; 3 in custody

Three people were taken into custody Friday after a multi-county pursuit ended with a wreck in West Palm Beach, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.

Teri Barbera, a spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office, said the suspects were identified while driving a stolen vehicle in Martin County. Investigators said the car was wanted in connection with a fatal shooting that took place in Belle Glade on Thursday night.

The trio got onto Beeline Highway in Palm Beach Gardens and eventually made their way south into West Palm Beach.

At the busy intersection of 45th Street and Broadway, police said the fleeing car ran a red light and hit the front of another car.

Police said it kept going, knocked down a road sign at a roundabout and crashed into a fire hydrant.

The three people in the car tried to run away, one reportedly waved a gun at officers.

“The person that was observed waving the gun initially was taken into custody immediately, and the other two fled and they had a pretty significant manhunt with multiple agencies for the last hour or so in Palm Beach County,” Martin County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy John Budensiek said.
