On February 16, 2024, Sgt. Dave Musgrove, a deputy from Charlotte County, saved a six-month-old baby after an accident in Englewood, Florida. The accident involved a motorcycle and a vehicle. The motorcycle was reportedly traveling at over 100MPH when it collided with the vehicle. Sgt. Musgrove was in the vicinity and responded promptly.

Sgt. Musgrove was on S. McCall Rd. near Spinnaker Blvd. when the motorcycle sped past him. Shortly after, he noticed signs of a crash ahead. He activated his emergency lights and informed dispatch. When he arrived at the scene, he found the motorcycle and the vehicle about 25-40 feet apart.

The motorcyclist had died on impact and was found in the rear window on the driver’s side of the vehicle. Sgt. Musgrove heard cries from the vehicle and went to assist. The driver, a mother, asked him to help her children. He found a child in a booster seat and took her out of the car. The mother told him there was another child in the backseat.

Sgt. Musgrove asked a bystander to hold the first child while he searched for the second. He found an infant, unconscious, under the deceased motorcyclist. With assistance, the motorcyclist was moved, and the seat belt was cut, freeing the infant. The baby was not breathing and had no pulse.
