Man accused of flashing gun at Schnucks employee over too many items for self-checkout

ST. LOUIS – A man is accused of flashing a gun at a Schnucks employee who told him he had too many items for the self-checkout line.

Police charged Jessie Lee Garrett with unlawful use of a weapon. They explained that Garrett was in a lane marked for ten items or fewer at the University City Schnucks on Olive.

When an employee approached him, he lifted his shirt and showed the employee a gun in his waistband. Garrett admitted to showing the gun but said he did so playfully. He then reportedly hid the gun because he’s a convicted felon and can’t legally possess firearms.

The police found the gun behind a box of candy on a nearby shelf.
