Dozens of Erie residents became American citizens on Friday.
During two ceremonies at the federal courthouse, more than 50 new Americans were naturalized. Many of these residents have lived in the region for several years and now call Erie home.

One mother from Bhutan became an American citizen and her son said she’s been waiting for this moment for more than a decade.
“She’s from Bhutan. I’m from Napal, and I resettled in 2010. She resettled in 2010 as well and she’s very happy to be a U.S. citizen after 14 years of waiting,” said Chandra Timsina and Arzun Zhimire, new Americans.

In Erie, there are typically 12 of these ceremonies a year acknowledging all of these new Americans who go through a long process to gain citizenship.
