Several street closures set for downtown Madison starting Monday

MADISON, Wis. — Travelers in parts of downtown Madison will need to start planning alternate routes ahead of several street closures beginning next week.

On Monday, work will begin on the two State Street Bus Rapid Transit stations between West Gorham Street and West Dayton Street. One westbound lane will remain open for delivery vehicle access, and bicycle traffic and sidewalks will remain open in both directions. Work is expected to wrap up in late April.

Also beginning Monday, southbound traffic on North Lake Street will be closed from State Street to University Ave. Crews will be installing temporary communication poles and overhead lines. The closure is expected to remain through Feb. 29.

In the meantime, northbound traffic, as well as the sidewalk on the west side of North lake Street, will stay open.
