Officials from Broward County Public Schools have confirmed a case of measles at Manatee Bay Elementary School in Weston, raising concerns amid a global increase in the highly contagious disease. The confirmation came on Friday, with district officials declining to specify whether the infected individual is a student or staff member.

However, the Sun Sentinel has reported that the case involves a third-grade student who has not traveled recently, suggesting local transmission.

John J. Sullivan, a spokesperson for Broward County Public Schools, emphasized the district’s commitment to health and safety.

“The health, safety, and welfare of our students and staff are always our priorities,” Sullivan stated.

He further mentioned that the district is collaborating closely with the Florida Department of Health in Broward County to address the situation and is communicating with families about the necessary precautions, following the health department’s guidance.
