‘That’s insane’: Neighbor speaks out after children were allegedly tied up at Bakersfield home

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. ( KGET ) — A woman is under arrest after multiple children were removed from an east Bakersfield home on Valentine’s Day in an overnight incident that blew up social media — but one neighbor says she’s not surprised.

It was on the night of Valentine’s Day when deputies from the Kern County Sheriff’s Office say they came knocking at the door at an east Bakersfield home on Larry Street for a welfare check after reports of children being “tied up.”

Moments later, 44-year-old Catherine Harris was questioned and arrested for felony child abuse as authorities removed kids from the home and took them into custody.

“That’s insane. Insane,” said neighbor Gabriela Alvarenga. “Like, my heart feels for those kids.”

Alvarenga, who lives down the street, says she’s been dealing with the loss of her dad who passed away last week. Now, she says her heart breaks again for the kids at the “odd house.”
