Mobley, who had spent the previous night sleeping on the streets of Ocala, had asked her mother for shelter to escape the cold. According to the arrest affidavit, Mobley expressed her intention to make pizza the following morning, a plan her mother countered by offering to share the grits she was cooking or to prepare another breakfast option. The situation escalated when her mother advised her against making pizza, according to FOX 5.

The confrontation reached a peak when Mobley, in a fit of anger, took some of the freshly made grits and slapped her mother in the face with them. Despite Mobley’s attempt to shift the blame by claiming her mother had staged the incident by hitting herself with the grits to appear as a victim, deputies noted evidence of grits and a handprint on the mother’s face that corroborated her account of the assault.
