Sherwood man accused of participating in Jan. 6 insurrection

PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — An Oregon man has been arrested and accused of participating in the January 6, 2021 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, the Department of Justice announced.

The 34-year-old David Medina, of Sherwood, was arrested in Portland Friday and is charged with a felony and several misdemeanors. According to court documents, he also allegedly made light about participating in the insurrection on social media.

Medina is facing a felony for obstruction of an official proceeding after he allegedly participated in a breach of the U.S. Capitol in Washington D.C. to disrupt a joint session of Congress to count the electoral votes for the 2020 presidential election.

Medina was also charged with misdemeanors for “destruction of government property, entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds, disorderly conduct in a Capitol building, and parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building,” DOJ’s release said.
