Cactus Theatre in Hawthorne listed in the Nevada State Register of Historic Places

HAWTHORNE, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) – The Cactus Theatre in downtown Hawthorne has been listed in the Nevada State Register of Historic Places. Constructed in 1946, the theater is housed within a Quonset hut, a semi-cylindrical metal building that was invented during World War II and used extensively on military installations due to their low cost and versatility. In a statement, Department of Conservation and Natural Resources officials say this architectural type is rare for theaters.
