A Cumberland County woman was killed, and her juvenile passengers injured when she struck an ambulance Tuesday night near her home in Gray’s Creek, the State Highway Patrol said.
Kristi Boyer, 42, was driving a Dodge Dakota east on Butler Nursey Road about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday when she attempted to pass an eastbound Cape Fear Valley Medical Center ambulance near Nash Road, Trooper J.W. Scott said. The Dodge first struck the front end of the ambulance as it turned left into a driveway and then a tree, Scott said. The wreck happened less than two miles from Boyer’s home on Hidden Oaks Drive.
Scott said the investigation estimated she was traveling 70 mph in a 45 mph zone.
She was pronounced dead at the hospital early Wednesday morning, Scott said. Neither of the individuals in the EMS vehicle suffered any injuries, but the minors in the Dodge Dakota were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, he said.
