HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Eating local can be difficult for the more than 100,000 students being served at Hawaii’s public schools, but experts say it’s not impossible. In fact, the state Department of Education has launched a new initiative to increase local food purchases and sustainability. By next year, the department is looking to get to 10% local purchases and 30% by 2030.
