Centennial homeowner scares off suspected burglar

CENTENNIAL, Colo (KDVR) — Deputies are searching for a man accused of trying to break into a home in Centennial on Feb. 13.

The homeowner was home at the time and told FOX31 it was just after midnight when she saw the suspect.

“I was on the phone with my nephew, just a late-night phone conversation, in my kitchen, all the lights were off, and I noticed a flashlight on my patio,” the homeowner, who wished to remain anonymous, said.

She said the man entered her fenced-in back patio and made his way to her detached garage, and that’s when her instincts kicked in.

“I took a huge risk and I think I did what any parent would do when you have children who live in your home and you’re going to protect that like a fortress,” the homeowner said. “I would do it all over again.”

She confronted the man, who then took off and escaped in a vehicle parked down the street.

“There’s a lot of anxiety that comes with that as well because maybe he didn’t physically take something, but maybe he took your sense of security, and we can’t go buy that at Target,” she said.
