A MOM was left in despair after she saw more than $20,000 vanish from her bank account.
Chase customer Avalon Grimes’ life savings disappeared after answering a call she thought was from the banking chain.
She initially didn’t suspect anything unusual as the number that appeared on her cell phone was the same as the one on the back of the card, per the CBS affiliate WCBS-TV.
The person on the other end of the line claimed they had spotted fraud on her account.
But, the nurse, from New York, was tricked into wiring thousands to another bank account.
The fraudster reportedly asked Grimes to relay the security code sent to her cell phone.
A bank statement, seen by WCBS, showed one payment showing $24,000 leaving her account.
“I worked very hard to save,” Grimes said.
She was in the process of saving for a house when she fell victim to the scam.
Chase revealed that the company is working to help Grimes recover the missing money.
The U.S. Sun has approached Chase for an update on the case.
