A FAMILY dollar was robbed of $27,000 in cash from its safe and the thief broke into the building through the ceiling.
The robbery occurred around at a Family Dollar in South Memphis,
, on Tuesday by a man who was wearing a ski mask.
The assistant manager visited the store around 6 a.m. and saw the staff and cash registers broken into, Fox affiliate WHBQ reported.
Investigators said the man used a cutting tool to get into the safe and he was caught on Family Dollar’s security tape.
The ceiling/safes were damaged leaving a mess to be cleaned up and will cost extra money to get fixed.
The thief was said to still be on the run Tuesday.
The store was closed for business for half the day and customers were shocked by the news along with having their shopping routine disturbed.
“They have a sign on the door that says closed. The system is down,” customer George Goodman said.
