Peaceful protest against Gannon’s Project NePTWNE planned for Feb. 18

( WJET/WFXP ) — Community members are holding a peaceful protest on Sunday in continued efforts to combat Gannon University’s plans for a water testing center at Blasco Library.

Members of Keep Our Library Public and Project Minerva have planned the protest at the library — located at 160 E Front St. — on Feb. 18 at 2 p.m. in opposition to Gannon’s Project NePTWNE.

This comes as a battle between supporters and the opposition community continues to keep the project at the library.

In October 2023, the Erie County Council decided to place the project in the library which many residents disagreed on as only five days had previously passed since the lease was introduced to the council budget to be voted on for passage with no community input.

On Feb. 14, more than 100 supporters showed up to celebrate their activism, continued the fight at Julius, the former Maennerchor Club at 1607 State St., and asked for more community members to sign their petition.

So far, over 4,000 signatures have been added to the petition.
