RI National Guard Unit returns from Kosovo deployment

NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — Soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 126th Aviation, have returned to Rhode Island following a 10-month deployment in Kosovo.

The helicopter battalion soldiers were welcomed home by family members, Gov. Dan McKee, and other military personnel at Quonset Air National Guard Base at the Army Aviation Support Facility on Saturday morning.

The unit served as part of the Kosovo Force mission, providing a safe and secure environment for all people in Kosovo.

Less than a month ago, the battalion made national news after rescuing two Swiss tourists that became stranded on a mountain in Albania following an avalanche.
