Blackman wrestling will send eight boys to the TSSAA Class AA state individual tournament, just one highlight from sectional championships Saturday. Oakland and Eagleville also had plenty of reasons to celebrate.
There will also be 15 girls from the Murfreesboro area who advanced to the state tournament, which will be held Friday and Saturday at the Williamson County Ag & Expo Center in Franklin.
Oakland’s Landon Beasley (132 pounds) and Nathan Barbee (144) both won championships in a meet that was dominated by Cleveland, which won the event with 237 points. Blackman was second with 129.5 points and the Patriots fourth with 74.
Eagleville had four champions in Class AA with wins by Matthew Pennington (106), Jacob Pennington (138), Brody McLemore (150) and Thomas Solomon (157).
Area girls Region 3 champions included Siegel’s Abigail Vanderheyden (126) and Mollie Bowman (138), Blackman’s Jonna Paterson (165) and Stewarts Creek’s Ashleigh Williams (235).
The top four finishers in each sectional and girls region event advanced to the state meet.
