FireWolves back to winning ways after “Mammoth” performance against Colorado

ALBANY, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — In a game that saw seven ties and two lead changes, the Albany FireWolves emerged from a tightly contested battle with the Colorado Mammoth victorious for the first time since Jan. 13.

Albany was on the right side of a 13-11 decision Saturday night at MVP Arena that not only snapped a two-game losing streak; it put the FireWolves back atop the NLL standings – tied with the Toronto Rock for first place at 7-2.

Goalie Doug Jamieson returned after missing Albany’s previous game on Feb. 3 and delivered with 50 saves on 61 shots. Rookie forward Tye Kurtz paced the offense with seven points (3g, 4a), while fellow first-year standout forward Alex Simmons posted a team-high four goals.

The FireWolves’ scoring was rounded out by Travis Longboat (5 points – 1g, 4a), Ethan Walker (5 points – 3g, 2a), Sam Firth (3 points 1g, 2a) and Marshall Powless (2 points – 1g, 1a).

Albany started out hot in the first quarter with consecutive goals from Simmons and then Kurtz. The Mammoth responded with two quick goals of their own to tie the game at 2-2 until Walker found the back of the net for the first time with just 11 seconds remaining in the opening stanza, giving Albany a 3-2 lead.
