On February 17, 2024, Gary Whynter, a 31-year-old man from Mattapan, was arrested by the Anti-Crime Unit of District B-2 in Roxbury. The arrest occurred during a traffic stop in Dorchester. The officers were patrolling Bowdoin Street and Geneva Avenue when they noticed a vehicle not stopping at a red light. They used their emergency lights and sirens to pull the vehicle over at 13 Harvard Street.
Upon approaching the vehicle, an officer noticed a firearm on the driver, identified as Whynter. The officers asked Whynter to exit the vehicle. He attempted to reach for the gear shift, but the officers safely removed him from the vehicle.
After Whynter was removed, the officers found a firearm in his waistband. The firearm, a Polymer 80, was loaded with 15 rounds in the magazine and an additional 9 rounds in a spare magazine. The other two occupants of the vehicle were released without charges.
Whynter was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, ammunition, and a large capacity feeding device. He is scheduled for arraignment in Dorchester District Court.
