Spineless response

Shame on the Lee County School District for not coming to the defense of teacher Michael Andoscia to support his efforts to educate his students. Once a Lee County Teacher of Distinction, he resigned his teaching position rather than kowtow to the growing fascist movement in Florida to ban books deemed inappropriate by groups like Moms for Liberty. In a state that purports to resist government intrusion in our lives, Governor DeSantis and the state Legislature have enacted laws that limit the right to choose what we read, along with other lost freedoms.

Removing Mr. Andoscia’s library and moving it into “administrative lockup” was a spineless response from the Lee County School District. Rather than trying to support an award winning and dedicated educator, the district watched him resign his position and offered no comment on why this occurred.

Administrative lockup is a precursor to book burning witnessed in Nazi Germany. This practice needs to be eliminated. If not, all fairy tales and the Bible will be next on the banned list.
