The historic Winston Churchill Apartments building is located at 5475 Cabanne in St. Louis, Missouri. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 4, 1985.
This is a U-shaped red brick building that stands eight stories tall. It was constructed in 1927, three years away from being a century old. The architecture firm was Hall and Proetz. Visit here for images.
The building is at the west end of St. Louis at the northeast corner of Cabanne and Belt Avenues and faces a city park that used to be the location of the Visitation Academy and Convent. This area where the apartment building is located used to be an exclusive area for middle and upper-income people.
Steps from a wide sidewalk lead up to the front door. On the building’s west side is an entrance to a 90-car garage. The units and public areas inside the building were intended to appeal to potential middle and upper-middle-income potential tenants.
The first floor contains two elevators and a large lobby. The left wing used to house a tea room and dining area for tenants. There was a meeting room in the other wing.
