Hawaiian taxpayers should take advantage of IRS Free File program

HONOLULU (KHON2) — The Internal Revenue Service announced that the IRS Free File program is now available for the 2024 filing season.

Up to 70% of Hawaiian taxpayers may qualify for the program, which would give them access to prepare and file their federal taxes for free.

In order to be eligible for the program, taxpayers need to meet the age, income and state residency requirements.

Taxpayers and active duty military that had an adjusted gross income of $79,000 or less in 2023 can qualify for IRS Free File using the tax providers that are participating.

If the taxpayer has an adjusted gross income over $79,000, they are still able to take advantage of the Free File Fillable Forms in order to file their return.

Those who do not have access to a computer are able to fill out forms on their phones or tablets, as the devices now support the program.
