In Lincoln’s Southwood neighborhood, a seemingly innocent issue over student parking has become a focal point for broader community concerns, sparking debate among residents about shared spaces, respect, and local dynamics.
The discussion was ignited by Lisa Costello, who shared an experience on Nextdoor involving her daughter, a student at Lincoln Southeast High School.
Costello shared that her daughter discovered a notice on her car, resembling a police warning against 24-hour parking, while parked on a street near the school. This incident raised alarms for Costello, prompting her to clarify the situation and address the community directly.
Costello emphasized that her daughter’s car was never parked for more than the duration of the school day, countering the implication of the notice.
“Just wanted to drop a quick note to the neighbors over off of 37th and Smith Street. My daughter goes to Southeast and Parks over there,” Costello posted.
“She came out of school last week to find, what looked like, a fake printed police notice for 24-hour parking on her windshield.”
