DNA helps ID cold case skeletal remains found decades ago in California creek bed

In a significant breakthrough, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office has identified Jane Doe, whose skeletal remains were discovered on August 9, 1993, in a creek bed off Pine Flat Road near Healdsburg.

The decades-long mystery surrounding the unidentified woman has finally been solved, thanks to modern DNA technology and the collaboration with the DNA Doe Project.

The remains, extensively decomposed at the time of discovery, had made it challenging to ascertain Jane Doe’s identity.

However, in 2022, the Sonoma County Coroner’s Bureau submitted Jane Doe’s DNA to the DNA Doe Project, a non-profit organization specializing in genetic genealogy.

The DNA Doe Project successfully identified a potential relative, eventually leading detectives to Jane Doe’s son.

The California Department of Justice DNA laboratory conducted a comparative analysis, confirming Jane Doe’s identity as Robin Fay Hedrick.

Robin was born in 1953 and resided in Vallejo, CA. Unfortunately, details about her life are scarce, and the last confirmed sighting dates back to February 1992 in Vallejo.

The circumstances surrounding her death are suspicious, prompting law enforcement to seek information from the public about Robin’s life.
