Lubbock-Cooper Lady Pirates wrestling team make history

CYPRESS, Texas — Lubbock-Cooper Lady Pirates wrestling team has become the first team in school history to bring home a state championship with 99.5 team points.

Red Raiders ousted by Iowa State Cyclones in weekend game

The Lady Pirates have ended the season as District 4-5A champions, Region 1-5A champions and now the State 5A Championship title.

Lubbock-Cooper had five girls that place top six with Taylin Silco ending as state champion and Kayla McLearen ending as state runner-up for the 235 weight class.

Silco ends her season as the state champion for 138 weight class and she has maintained to do so undefeated with a 40-0 record.

The three-year program has had some major achievements this season.

Girls:

100 — Karisma Ramos, Lubbock High, 3rd place

114 — Maddie Peña, Lubbock High, 1st place, State Champion

126 — Zoë Bennett, Lubbock-Cooper, 3rd place

138 — Taylin Silco, Lubbock-Cooper, 1st place, State Champion
