INDIANAPOLIS — An IMPD officer was injured in a serious crash on the southwest side of Indianapolis while they were on their way to work Sunday afternoon.
According to IMPD, the incident occurred near Mooresville Road and Kentucky Avenue around 1:07 p.m. As of 4:17 p.m. Sunday, northbound Highway 67 remained closed in the 7900 block.
IMPD reported that another officer, also on their way into work, had stopped in the left lane with their lights flashing to remove a mattress that had flown out of the back of a pickup truck. The driver of that truck remained on the scene and spoke to investigators.
The second IMPD vehicle approached and was involved in a sideswipe accident with another northbound passenger car. The second patrol car rear-ended the first and flipped on its roof, landing about 20 feet away.
That second officer was extricated by firefights and rushed to Eskenazi Hospital, where they are reported to be in critical but stable condition. The driver of the passenger car was also transported to the hospital but did not necessarily exhibit any injuries.
