A FAMILY-oriented program is paying millions of dollars to pregnant Americans.
Californian expectant parents could get $920 a month for a year and a half.
The program, funded partially by state money, will experiment with “no strings attached” payments.
It’s one of a raft of new payment programs offering guaranteed income.
The money, distributed through Northern California’s McKinleyville Family Resource Center, will pay 150 randomly selected pregnant people, Jefferson Public Radio reported.
The program will go to people living in Humboldt County, near the Oregon border.
Applications opened on December 11, and will remain open until May 30 or when all slots are filled.
Slots are dwindling — as of February 8, 108 out of 150 had been filled.
REQUIREMENTS
Not everyone will qualify for the payment.
The first criteria are to be in Humboldt County and under 28 weeks pregnant at the time of enrollment.
Next, you must be 18 or over to qualify.
Money is also meant to help those with the most need.
That means to qualify you must make an amount equal to or below 200% of the federal poverty line.
