Cowboys knock off highly-ranked Cascade

The Crook County Cowboys jumped out to a 9-0 lead and were never headed as they rolled past the Cascade Cougars 76-54 Saturday afternoon at Crook County Middle School.

The Cowboys were led by Tyson Martinez’s 21 points, on seven three-pointer, including four in the first quarter alone.

“It was really important to get off to a quick start,” “Martinez said. “It gave us a lot of good energy and it got us going on a pretty good run there in the beginning.”

Cascade, which came into the game ranked No. 1 in the coaches’ poll and with the No. 2 OSAA power ranking, did not suit up most of their starters who were dealing with minor injuries.

“They were banged up a little bit,” Crook County head coach Jason Mumm said. “They had some guys that weren’t dressed and they weren’t 100 percent, but their other guys are capable. That’s not the same team that they have bene all year, obviously, but that’s not to take away from our guys at all, because we got after it.”

The Cowboys led 24-12 at the end of one period and led 42-28 at the half. Crook County extended their lead to 61-43 after three periods, and led by 28 late in the contest before Cascade made a small run at the end of the game.
