Inmate seriously injured in fight at Utah State Prison

SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — An inmate was hospitalized with serious injuries after an altercation at the Utah State Correctional Facility Saturday, according to the Utah Dept. of Corrections .

Officials said three inmates were involved in the incident, which occurred in the Antelope unit of the prison. The Antelope facility reportedly houses the highest custody level inmates at the prison.

According to the UDC, there are indications that a weapon was used in the assault.

One inmate was taken to the hospital by AirMed with reportedly serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The UDC’s Law Enforcement Bureau is conducting an investigation into the incident.

Restrictions are being placed within the Antelope facility while the investigation is underway, officials said.

The Utah State Correctional Facility is located in Salt Lake City.
