GREENVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) – Enersys announced on Wednesday that it’s investing $500 million to open a new manufacturing facility in Greenville, which will in turn, bring 500 new jobs to the area.
The company is a global leader in energy storage and makes and distributes batteries for electric forklifts. Leaders said they’ll build a 500,000-square-foot facility in the city, where they’ll produce different forms of lithium-ion cells.

They said they chose Greenville as a way to attract engineers to want to move to the area. They said they also are planning to lean on Clemson University when it comes to recruiting talent to fill their 500 open roles.
“We just have to reduce our reliance on non-US sourcing for these lithium-ion sales,” said David Shaffer, director, president and CEO of Enersys. “We looked across the country and to me, it was an easy choice. You have to attract talent and it has to be a place where people want to live and work. There’s so much going on here and there is so much to be proud of for you folks that live here.”
