Takeaways from Oregon softball’s disappointing weekend at the Campbell/Cartier Classic

It was a disappointing weekend in San Diego for the No. 17 Oregon softball team.

Despite five solid outings from their pitching staff, the Ducks’ hitters struggled with consistency as Oregon went 2-3 during the Campbell/Cartier Classic.

The Ducks (6-5) opened the tournament Friday with a 4-1 loss Texas A&M and a 4-0 loss to Loyola Marymount. Oregon rebounded Saturday with an 8-0 win against Loyola Marymount at 2-0 win against San Diego State. But it was blanked again on Sunday, 2-0 by Texas A&M, to end the weekend.

Ducks’ rotation looks sharp

Oregon’s pitchers combined to allow just six earned runs over 32.0 innings in the five games — two in each of the three losses — and 5.2 hits per game. Their collective ERA was 1.31.

In one start and two relief appearances, freshman Taylor Spencer pitched 8.2 innings and allowed nine hits, two earned runs with two strikeouts and two walks.

Stevie Hansen took the loss Friday to Loyola Marymount despite a throwing a six-hitter in which she allowed only two earned runs over six innings.
