Man bitten by shark near Charleston Harbor, coast guard says

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD)- A man was bitten by a shark Thursday night off the Charleston Harbor.

A man, 65, was spearfishing 20 miles off the shore when he was bitten by a shark, said the U.S. Coast Guard. The man made his way back onto the boat, where a crew member applied a tourniquet to the wound.

The boat carrying the injured man returned to the harbor and was assisted by the harbor police unit and Coast Guard Station Charleston, Petty Ofc. Vincent Moreno said.

Authorities boarded the 28-foot boat and inspected the man’s wound, which had stopped bleeding. The victim was then taken to the Medical University of South Carolina by EMS.
