The Fort Worth City Council has officially renamed Ryan Place Triangle Park to Joan Kline Park, honoring the late community advocate for her significant contributions to the city.
Park history: Ryan Place Triangle Park, 3001 Fifth Ave. in Council District 9, has been a cherished green space since its purchase and dedication in 1974. Acquired in response to the public’s call for additional parkland, the 0.27-acre triangular plot was endorsed by the Park & Recreation Advisory Board on June 11, 1974. The park, a long-sought-after asset by the Ryan Place Neighborhood Association, features benches and a sitting area with bricks.
Joan Kline’s contributions: Joan Kline was a dedicated advocate for Fort Worth, particularly the Near Southside. Her efforts in the 1980s helped revitalize the Near Southside corridor and Magnolia Avenue. She played a key role in preserving the Historic Fairmount Neighborhood and was instrumental in expanding Fire Station Park and creating its skate park.
Renaming process: The renaming process began with a petition and public notices published on March 18 and April 15, 2024. One supportive comment was received from the Ryan Place Improvement Association. The Park & Recreation Advisory Board endorsed the renaming on May 22, 2024, and the City Council approved it on June 25, 2024.
