SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A body recovered at San Diego’s Pacific Beach Thursday morning was a 25-year-old firefighter with the Oakland Fire Department , officials say. He was reportedly in town for the California Firefighter Summer Games.
According to the San Diego Police Department, the call about a missing swimmer came in at 1:56 a.m. and a search began shortly after in the coastal area near Grand Avenue.

The firefighter was identified as 25-year-old Caeden Laffan. He was at the beach with a group of friends and a family member before going missing in the water. The group told lifeguards that he had walked out into the ocean about chest to waist deep and took a few strokes before he went missing.
Officials with San Diego Fire say “it’s possible that alcohol was involved.” An investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
