Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest event dedicated to Alzheimer’s care, support and research

It’s time to kick off the Pinellas County Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Thursday, August 13 from 5 to 7 p.m. at BJ’s Brewhouse, 3800 Park Blvd., in Pinellas Park.

This special event is open to the public and will give attendees a glimpse at what this year’s walk will look like and a chance to learn more about the Alzheimer’s Association, how to get involved, and how to create your team.

On Saturday, October 5, 2024, starting at 8 a.m., the Pinellas County Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be held at Poynter Park, 1000 3rd Street, in Pinellas County. This year’s local presenting sponsors are BayCare, Morton Plant Hospital, and St. Anthony’s Hospital.

Nearly 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease in the United States. Additionally, more than 11 million family members and friends provide care to people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

In Florida, there are more than 580,000 people living with the disease and 840,000 unpaid dementia caregivers. Pinellas County has an estimated 30,400 people or 12% over the age of 65 living with Alzheimer’s. New treatments to help slow down the progression of the disease have been approved as recently as July and are giving families hope for the first time.
