The Virginia Zoo is supporting Hampton Roads youth as they gear up to return to school by hosting a back-to-school event Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is free with general zoo admission or zoo membership.
The zoo has been hosting a school supply donation drive since June 1, which comes to a close at the event. The donation drive supports two community organizations that are committed to youth development and safety, Big Homies Inc. and Reck League, by providing necessary school supplies to benefit Hampton Roads youth.
The event will feature animal ambassador encounters, a DJ dance party, bounce houses and exciting educational opportunities with community partners. The zoo will host a book fair in partnership with Norfolk Public Library and several local bookstores to get children excited about learning this school year. Guests can also help prepare meals for zoo animals during a “browse party,” where they will process plant material donated by the Norfolk Botanical Garden.
