One of three teenagers charged with involuntary manslaughter in Alexa Stakely death

A Franklin County Grand Jury handed up an indictment of one of the three teenagers charged in the death of Alexa Stakely, the Pickerington mom struck and killed with her own vehicle while trying to save her son .

The jury returned the three-count indictment against Gerald Dowling, 19, of Northwest Columbus. Dowling is charged with involuntary manslaughter, grand theft of a motor vehicle, and receiving stolen property, the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement released Friday evening.

No arraignment date is scheduled.

Dowling is the only adult arrested in the July 11 incident that led to the death of 29-year-old Alexa Stakely.

The other two suspects, two 16-year-old males, have been charged in Franklin County Juvenile Court and will be tried as adults if a judge finds probable cause to believe they committed the crime. The Dispatch is not naming them at this time because they are minors.

The search for suspects involved in Stakely’s death ended after the parents of one of the 16-year-olds encouraged him to surrender to police, the Dispatch previously reported. One of the 16-year-old boys told Columbus police detectives he was the person behind the wheel of Alexa Stakely’s Honda CRV when it struck her, police said previously.
