CHP: Driver who fired gun on I-280 in San Jose during rush-hour arrested

(KRON) — A man who allegedly fired a gun at another driver on a busy stretch of Interstate-280 in San Jose was booked into jail on suspicion of attempted murder, the California Highway Patrol said.

The freeway shooting happened near the Saratoga Avenue exit at 5:10 p.m., while rush-hour commuters are usually stuck in gridlock traffic, on May 15. A victim called 911 reporting that he was driving on I-280 when another driver opened fire.

“The victim, who was not injured in the incident, safely exited the freeway where he was met by officers,” the CHP wrote. Officers found a bullet hole in the victim’s front fender and traffic cameras helped identify the suspect’s vehicle. It was registered to Manuel Cadenas, 41, of San Jose, the CHP said.

Cold cases added to ‘San Jose’s Most Wanted’ list

CHP Golden Gate Division Special Investigations Unit detectives launched an investigation into Cadenas. “Evidence gathered lead to the issuance of warrants for Cadenas’ arrest as well as a search of his San Jose home,” the CHP wrote.
