One dead, another seriously injured following motorcycle crash on I-64

ALLEGHANY COUNTY, VA (LOOTPRESS) – A motorcycle crash on Interstate 64 resulted in one fatality and another person critically injured on Thursday evening.

According to the Virginia State Police, the incident occurred at 5:24 PM Thursday near the 20.4-mile marker, approximately 1.25 miles west of Route 696 in Alleghany County, Virginia.

A 2007 Harley Davidson was traveling west at a high rate of speed when it passed a vehicle and then veered off the right side of the roadway, striking a guardrail.

Both the driver and the passenger were ejected from the motorcycle.

The driver, identified as James Douglas Pittman, 55, of Ashland, VA, was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The passenger, who was also wearing a helmet, sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

The Virginia State Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
