Tecumseh falls in Great Lakes Region opener, 7-1

WHITESTOWN, Ind. — Tecumseh will have to travel a long road ahead to make it to Williamsport, Pennsylvania as it fell to Bowling Green East in Game 1 of the Great Lakes Region, 7-1.

The Michigan and Kentucky representatives were locked into a pitching dual through the first three innings, combing for one hit on a leadoff bunt by Keelyn Ballard in the first for Tecumseh.

Despite Tecumseh having the only hit, it trailed 1-0 through three innings as Bowling Green East’s Kip Walden allowed one walk and struck out six in 2.2 innings pitched to start the game.

Once Walden left, Tecumseh began putting the ball in play with Ballard hitting a triple to centerfield and scoring on a passed ball to tie the game.

The score didn’t remain tied for long as Bowling Green East got a pair of bloop singles in the fifth to finally get in the hit column and go back up, 2-1.

In the sixth, Bowling Green East took control with a leadoff single and bunt, which nobody covered first one and the ball sailed into right field allowing the runners to go up to second and third with no outs. The miscue led to what became a five-run inning for the Kentucky team to go up 7-1.
