Mobile Red Cross volunteers prepare to help with Debby impacts

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG)- The Alabama Red Cross has set up a base of operation in Dothan, Alabama ahead of Debby.

With nearly 15 volunteers, two being from Mobile and more help on the way, the Red Cross has packed trucks full of emergency supplies, blankets, clean-up kits and meals.

“They may not be able to do things like take a shower, brush their teeth, eat, and then when they come back to their homes, they may not have a home to come back to,” Red Cross member, David Rauch said.

Rauch says that the emergency response vehicles are also ready to go with volunteers to help the community the moment the storm passes.

Things that you can do to prepare for the storm include having an emergency kit, stocking up on water and non-perishables, collecting important documents and having plenty of food for your pets.

Rauch says with an expected busy hurricane season, they need all hands on deck.

“Last year we were here in Dothan preparing for a hurricane that was coming into Florida and unfortunately, it’s looking like this hurricane season could be particularly active,” Rauch said. “So, there may be many more where we’re back down here to lend a hand.”
