RPS Summer Fest and ‘Back 2 School Rally’ held in Richmond provided supplies to students

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Richmond Public Schools hosted RPS Summer Fest and the 16th Annual Citywide Back 2 School Rally on Saturday to help students and families prepare for school.

The RPS Summer Fest and 16th Annual Citywide Back 2 School Rally was held at Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School on Saturday, Aug. 3 with a variety of vendors and information to help families get a head start on the upcoming school year.

Diontae Dugger, Dean of Students at Richmond High School for the Arts, said the event provided a variety of school supplies to help students get prepared for their first day of school.

“I’ve heard from a lot of students and a lot of families that attend this event that they feel a lot more prepared, a lot more ready for school,” Dugger said. “And they come into school and [don’t] have to worry about that challenge or that barrier of not having school supplies on their first day.”

School supplies given away at the event included backpacks filled with notebooks, binders, pencils, crayons and glue sticks. Several vendors at the event also provided toothbrushes and toothpaste.
