‘I still need more answers’: Family remains on quest for answers after learning of the death of missing 68-year-old Bakersfield woman

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A family was on the hunt to find a loved one, now they are on the hunt to find out what led to that loved one’s death.

“The door is still not closed yet; I still need more answers,” said Tomeka Madkins, daughter of Anna Maree Baker.

Anna Maree Baker, 68, was last seen on July 17 near her home on Clyde Street at around 1 p.m. According to her family, Baker had dementia and a series of other health problems. They feared the worst could happen to her if they didn’t find her. That biggest fear came true.

“The last two weeks of her life … she didn’t deserve that. Finding her in the middle of nowhere it kills me,” said Baker’s daughter, Tanesia Madkins.

According to the Bakersfield Police Department, officers located a the body of a woman near Watts Drive on July 31. After investigation by the coroner’s office, Baker was confirmed to be the woman.

The investigation showed there is no evidence of foul play. But the family isn’t so convinced.

“I feel like someone got scared and they dumped her,” Baker’s granddaughter Ryashia Madkins said. “I feel like somebody was holding her body the whole time.”
