Dallas police chief fires two officers for off-duty behavior

Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia has dismissed two officers due to off-duty misconduct, the department announced Monday.

Sr. Cpl. Joshua Cooper was terminated after being found asleep at the wheel of a running car in Wylie. Cooper was cited for public intoxication following the incident.

The second officer, Shawn Couch, was fired after multiple violations. The department cited Couch for receiving off-duty pay for unperformed work, breaching the Expanded Neighborhood Patrol Policy, violating the off-duty employment policy, and providing false information to administrative investigators.

Both officers have the right to appeal their dismissals.
