Officer hospitalized after crash in north Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — A police officer has been hospitalized following a crash in north Columbus.

Emergency crews were on the scene of the crash as of 12:30 p.m. It happened in the area of the Oakland Park Avenue and Cleveland Avenue intersection. The sheriff’s office said a Mifflin Township officer was responding to a call for help from a Clinton Township officer when the former’s cruiser was involved in a crash. The Mifflin Township officer was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition.

Columbus police also responded, and the sheriff’s office said the division is handling the investigation into the crash. CPD dispatchers told NBC4 that officers shut down some lanes of the roadway and encouraged drivers to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.

Columbus police have not provided information on any other vehicles or people involved.
