BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A man who robbed a Wells Fargo bank in Bakersfield — and who has eight prior bank robbery convictions dating back to 1992 — was sentenced Tuesday to a life term in prison.
Ray Fitzgerald Green received a sentence of 25 years to life plus 27 years and four months in prison, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
Green, 60, was found guilty of robbery, grand theft of property, recklessly evading a peace officer, possession of a gun by a felon and resisting a peace officer.
On the morning of Sept. 15, 2021, Green entered a Wells Fargo bank on California Avenue and handed the teller a note stating he had a gun and to hand over cash in large bills. The teller gave him money and he left.
Unbeknownst to Green, a tracking device was hidden among the bills.
Following the device’s location, police caught up to a vehicle driven by Green that was heading north on Highway 99. A high-speed chase ensued, Green’s vehicle reaching speeds of 140 mph as it weaved through traffic.
